Bird of the Week

One of the benefits of living near a body of water is that you have avian visitors of a variety.
The Egret is not an uncommon bird, but it is always a welcomed sight. They are graceful in flight, and when they take off of land, their wings have an angelic shape. This one was seen as I walked the dog, it immediately took flight from the water and roosted in a nearby tree..  The egret stood stock still in the tree for a long time and I was able to sit and watch.  As I watched I saw an Oriole diving on the Egret to chase it off. The bright flashes of orange flitting about the Egret made for an interesting sight.  I hope to return to see if I can get a shot of the Oriole alone.  The Egret paid it no mind and after awhile it returned to fishing. These birds are common further South year round, but they are summer visitors around NJ
