BECOMING AN IMAGE OF OUR GOD?

In today’s gospel Jesus challenges us by asking of us a tough task, urging his followers to, “love your enemies, and pray for your persecutors.” In this way he invites us to be like Him, to be his ‘image’ by praying for all; by loving all, just as He does. “For God makes the sun rise on bad and good alike; God’s rain falls on the just and the unjust.”

The gospel would rather try to coax us into realizing that God is revealed over time and through many people. It is up to us individually and as the whole human community to be ready, to be open, to ‘see’ God as we encounter the many ‘glances’ of God in our lifetime. Our God is a personal God. He relates with us and our concept of God is evolved gradually by experiencing him. Time and again his image changes within us and makes us complete.

Prayer: Lord, help us to encounter You and become like You. Amen.
