Ps 122: 1-2;
Mk 12: 18-27.
I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE!
Today’s first reading tells us how St. Paul, an apostle of Christ understood that the Gospel could be preached to all the nations only by the power of the Risen Lord. Depending only on our merits, talents and strength would be a life like bulbs without power. The need of the hour is to serve the Lord with a clear conscience depending on the promises of eternal life given by Jesus himself.
In the Gospel reading Jesus tells us that only those who understand the scriptures and the power of God will believe in the resurrection of the dead. It is an argument against the question raised by Sadducees. Jesus answers them that marriage is a worldly affair. After death we are like angels in heaven. Jesus through his Resurrection has destroyed death and gained for us eternal life. He is the Lord of life. Our focus thus must move from our earthly existence to an eternal life in Him.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, we cannot be fruitful Christians apart from you. Help us draw our identity, sustenance and life from you. Amen.
