Saadet Che Demir and Gulbahar Adanc are two young Kurdish women from Norway, who have a remarkable story to tell. Saadet and Gulbahar had been Kurdish activists for a long time, but the massacre in Cizre last September, where the Turkish army killed hundreds of Kurds during violent round-the-clock curfews, changed something in them. The ongoing massacres and injustices against Kurds in Turkey and the Middle East became too much to bear and urged them to do something. They decided to start a civil protest, of a scale that would match the atrocities being committed: Saadet and Gulbahar started walking from Norway to Turkey.
Their 5000 kilometer march will take them across the following countries: Norway, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece and finally, Turkey.
The goal of Saadet and Gulbahar’s project is to raise awareness about the brutalities being committed in the Kurdish region in Turkey and elsewhere in Kurdistan. The Kurdish people, who’s struggle has been ignored or criminalized for far too long, deserve to be heard. In every country they pass, they go to the capital to meet politicians and other decision makers to talk about their project and their reasons for doing it. Everyone Saadet and Gulbahar meet, gets a copy of a declaration they wrote at the beginning of their journey, detailing their motivations and the things they would like to see realized. A declaration will also be given to the UN, who they specifically ask to recognize the existence of the Kurdish people, by (among other things) giving them an observatory status in the UN General Assembly. The name of the project, Existence March (short ‘em’, which is Kurdish for ‘we’), refers to the Kurdish struggle to be recognized and heard.

Van Oslo tot Ankara: twee Koerdische vrouwen wandelen 5000 km voor vrede en gerechtigheid
Saadet Che Demir en Gulbahar Adanc zijn twee jonge Koerdische vrouwen uit Noorwegen, die een opmerkelijk verhaal te vertellen hebben. Saadet en Gulbahar waren al langer Koerdische activisten, maar het bloedbad in Cizre in september vorig jaar, waarbij het Turkse leger honderden Koerden doodde tijdens een gewelddadig regime van permanent huisarrest, veranderde iets in hen. De voortdurende moordpartijen en het onrecht tegen de Koerden in Turkije en het Midden-Oosten werd te veel om te dragen en zette hen aan om iets te doen. Ze besloten om een burgerprotest te starten, van een schaal die overeenkomt met de wreedheden die begaan worden: Saadet en Gulbahar begonnen te wandelen van Noorwegen naar Turkije.
Hun tocht van 5000 kilometer zal hen door de volgende landen brengen: Noorwegen, Denemarken, Duitsland, Nederland, België, Frankrijk, Zwitserland, Italië, Griekenland en ten slotte, Turkije.
Het doel van Saadet en Gulbahars project is om aandacht te vragen voor de wreedheden die begaan worden in de Koerdische regio in Turkije en elders in Koerdistan. Het Koerdische volk, wiens strijd al te lang genegeerd en gecriminaliseerd wordt, verdient het om gehoord te worden. In elk land dat de twee vrouwen bezoeken, gaan ze naar de hoofdstad om politici en andere beleidsmakers te ontmoeten en om te praten over hun project en hun beweegredenen. Iedereen die Saadet en Gulbahar ontmoeten, krijgt een kopie van een verklaring die ze schreven aan het begin van hun reis, met daarin meer informatie over hun motivatie en de dingen die ze zouden willen gerealiseerd zien. Er zal ook een verklaring worden gegeven aan de Verenigde Naties, die ze in het bijzonder vragen om het bestaan van het Koerdische volk te erkennen, door ze (onder meer) een waarnemersstatus in de Algemene Vergadering van de VN toe te kennen. De naam van het project, Existence March (kortweg 'em', of Koerdisch voor 'wij'), verwijst naar de Koerdische strijd om erkend en gehoord te worden.

De Oslo à Ankara: deux femmes kurdes marchent 5000 km pour la paix et la justice
Saadet Che Demir et Gulbahar Adanc sont deux jeunes femmes kurdes en provenance de Norvège, qui ont une histoire remarquable à raconter. Saadet et Gulbahar avaient été des militants kurdes depuis longtemps, mais le massacre à Cizre en septembre 2015, où l'armée turque a tué des centaines de Kurdes pendant un couvre-feux permanent et violent, a changé quelque chose pour eux. Les massacres et les injustices permanents contre les Kurdes en Turquie et au Moyen-Orient étaient devenus trop lourd à porter et les a exhortés à faire quelque chose. Elles ont décidé de lancer une protestation civile, d'une échelle qui correspondrait aux atrocités commises: Saadet et Gulbahar ont commencé à marcher de la Norvège à la Turquie.
Leur tour de 5000 kilomètres les mènera à travers les pays suivants: la Norvège, Danemark, l’Allemagne, les Pays-Bas, la Belgique, la France, la Suisse, l'Italie, la Grèce et enfin, la Turquie.
L'objectif du projet de Saadet et Gulbahar est de sensibiliser sur les brutalités commises dans la région kurde en Turquie et ailleurs dans le Kurdistan. Le nom du projet, Existence Mars (bref 'em', le mot kurde pour ‘nous’), fait référence à la lutte des Kurdes pour être reconnu et entendu.
