Donny and Bianca won their campaigns (and you can, too!)‏

Here's what you made happen last month!

Dear friends,

Donny Moss and Bianca Palmisano are two Care2 members with something big in common: they just won their petition campaigns. And even better, they've volunteered to share what they learned at this month's Care2 Activist University training.
Donny is a Care2 member and animal rights activist living in New York City. He started his first Care2 petition after learning that the New York Blood Center (NYBC) had left hundreds of chimpanzees to die on barren islands. The Center conducted research experiments on the chimps and promised to provide them with lifelong care after the trials. But when the NYBC failed to live up to that promise, Donny asked their donor Citigroup to speak up for the chimps – and because of his petition, they did.
Bianca is also a committed activist who recently started her first Care2 petition. Below you'll learn more about how she spearheaded a campaign urging her alma mater, American University, to take serious steps to tackle sexual assault on their campus. Like Donny, she put in weeks of hard work to spread the word and negotiate with her petition target. This April, it paid off, when her petition became a resounding success.

Lions and Bears at Abandoned Armenian Zoo Have Been Rescued

Three lions, two bears, and two guinea pigs were left to die in what's been dubbed "the world's saddest zoo" in Armenia. After Care2 members learned about these starving, neglected animals, they sprang into action, creating not one but three petitions, and collected more than 339,000 signatures. Now, thanks to Care2 activists and charity organizations from all over the globe, the animals have been rescued! But pack animals at the Grand Canyon haven't been so lucky – every day, the horses and mules there suffer rampant abuse, including beatings, starvation, and dehydration. Will you sign Care2 member Karina's petition to protect these animals?

Sexual Assault Will Now Be Taken Seriously at American University

When Faith Ferber reported being sexually assaulted by another student at American University, the school refused to take any action against her assailant and postponed a hearing for six months. This news outraged Bianca Palmisano and other alumni, so they started a Care2 petition demanding that the university improve handling of sexual assault cases. More than 80,000 Care2 activists signed the petition, which Bianca delivered to university officials. Now, American University is making big changes to its sexual assault policies that even go beyond the petition's demands. If you know about injustices occurring in your community, start a petition now!

Wolves and Coyotes in Ontario Will Be Spared!

When Canadian resident Amelia heard that the Ontario government was considering a proposal that would lead to huge increases in wolf and coyote hunting, she was outraged. She jumped into action and created a Care2 petition demanding that the government reverse course and protect these animals. Amelia collected tens of thousands of petition signatures, and delivered them straight to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Officials were so impressed by the large number of signatures that it helped convince them to abandon their hunting proposal. Are you ready to make a difference and become a voice for the voiceless? Start your own Care2 petition today!

City of Cleveland Will Pay Family of Tamir Rice $6 Million for Their Loss

In November 2014, 12 year-old Tamir Rice was playing with a toy gun when suddenly two police officers pulled up and, within two seconds, shot him. An ambulance took the child to a hospital where he died the next day. This outrageous incident only grew worse when the City of Cleveland billed Tamir's family for the ambulance ride. That's when Care2 member Tee Yvonne created a petition demanding the city drop the ambulance fee and settle with the boy's family. Now, the city has agreed to pay Tamir's family $6 million for their loss. While no amount of money can make up for a child's death, the efforts of Care2 members helped secure some measure of justice for Tamir's grieving family.

Florida County Will Honor Memory of Mikhail and Gap

In March 2013, Rachael Scandarion learned the worst news a mother could hear: her son, Mikhail, and his friend Gap had been killed after their car hydroplaned and crashed into a tree. A memorial set up at the tree became a sanctuary that family and friends maintained for two years – until county park officials demanded they remove it. Rachael created a Care2 petition asking officials to allow the tree memorial to remain. 12,000 signatures later, the county has agreed to keep a garden and bench to honor Mikhail and Gap, and it will even place a special plaque on the tree. If you want to make a stand in your community, start your own Care2 petition!

Stuart's Fighting for the Dignity of All People in San Francisco

Stuart – popularly known as "Broke-Ass Stuart" – is a proud San Franciscan. He loves many things about his city, but there's one thing he does not like – and that's the current Mayor's disregard for the plight of the homeless. To receive additional funding to set up shelter for a skyrocketing number of homeless individuals, the Mayor needs to declare a State of Emergency – but so far he is refusing. Stuart started a Care2 petition demanding the Mayor take action to address homelessness, and thousands of Care2 members are flocking to his cause! Read more about Stuart's story here, then start your own petition.
