Total production was up 2.1% to 39,182,784. That is a lot of cars. Nearly 54% were made in China, a nation that forces everyone to make cars there through high import tariffs. Mind you, that is the way things are done in Asia. It's all about trade surplus. The West tolerates it so I won't fret.
Japan made just over eight million cars in 1998, more than 2015. Taiwan made the same number of cars
