Protesters and riot police faced off during a demonstration near the
Moria refugee centre in Lesbos, Thursday. One of the protesters was
reportedly detained for spraying a sign on a police van during the
march, which was held to protest the establishment of refugee 'hotspots'
on the island from where refugees may be deported to Turkey.
Volunteers and activists who had worked in the refugee centre, rallied
peacefully wearing life jackets, reading "stop deportation" and "open
borders for all, safe passage for all," condemning what they see as the
mistreatment of refugees and the potential deportation of refugees to
Turkey. The asylum seekers joined the march by shouting and chanting
behind the wire.
