Veterinary Highlights: Increasing Threat of Leptospirosis

Not long ago a friend's dog died to leptospirosis. The kicker is that the dog was vaccinated and the serovar he sucumbed to was one of the four included in the vaccine which makes the case so much sadder. It's definitely not a simple situation with this disease.

To make things worse, leptospirosis cases are on the rise. How should one protect their dog? Should we vaccinate or shouldn't we?

At least testing for it has become easier with the new Snap Lepto Test by Idexx Laboratories. The right treatment at the right time can make all the difference. The best treatment, of course, is always prevention, however controversial. Even though there is no guarantee of 100% protection, it is still the best bet.
