So I saw this sign at the pool this past weekend, and it really struck me: who needs a sign to tell them NOT to dive into zero feet, zero inches of water? Answer: everyone who uses the Dimond Park Aquatic Center public pool in Juneau, apparently? This seems impossible.
Still I find it kind of amazing that someone made this sign and installed it in a public pool with apparently zero irony. There's something hysterically funny to me about the two giant "0s" and the icon of the guy clunking his head on cement in a red circle with a slash through it.
I mean, at a certain point, you can't learn everything you need to know about life from posted placards, signs, and warnings. The basic translation of this sign is "don't slam your head into cement." It doesn't really belong on a pool any more than it belongs on the sidewalk, in the parking lot of Trader Joe's, at the entrance to a skate park, or really anywhere else where there is cement accompanied by zero feet and zero inches of water.
I guess what I'm saying is if you need this sign, you need someone to tell you not to slam your head into cement. And if you need someone to tell you that, well, you've got bigger problems than trying to comply with a sign telling you not to do it.
