Dear friends,

Dozens of anti-refugee bills have been introduced in Congress. Many are harmful.

Amnesty is monitoring them closely and will organize activists to challenge any one that gains traction.

Will you support our efforts? Donate and help Amnesty advocate for families fleeing conflict around the world.

In the wake of the conflict in Syria—which has led to one of the most horrific refugee crises in memory—the United States has taken in a paltry number of refugees. Of the 4.2 million Syrian refugees, the United States has taken in 2,920.

This is unacceptable.

Our team is working on a multi-pronged approach to the emergency.

At the grassroots:
  • We're monitoring anti-refugee bills in Congress and will organize activists to mobilize against any one that gains traction.
  • We are training activists to speak out in the press through op-eds whenever they see or hear anti-refugee rhetoric.
Internationally:
  • We've sent crisis investigators into Syria to research human rights atrocities and we have released reports that have garnered widespread media coverage, keeping attention on the conflict.
  • We've been working in Greece, Hungary and Jordan, documenting treatment of refugees—particularly women and children—and inspecting detention centers.
Here in the U.S.:
  • We've been pressuring decision-makers in Congress to take in more refugees and robustly support resettlement programs in other countries as well.
Please, if you have been moved by a story you have heard about a refugee fleeing the chaos in Syria, make a donation to support our efforts advocating on their behalf.

We have a lot of work to do. Donate now.

Sincerely,

Tarah Demant
