Repost. New facts were discovered.
These facts are:
Dr. Sergei Ostroumov experimentally proved that synthetic surfactants and detergents (they pollute rivers, lakes, reservoirs, estuaries, seas, oceans ) inhibit (decrease, slow down) water filtration by marine and freshwater bivalve mollusks: see the 10+ references mentioned below;

new facts discovered:
surfactants [exemplified by the cationic surfactant, tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TDTMA)] and synthetic detergents inhibited the control of phytoplankton (Monochrystis lutheri) by marine mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis).
the cationic surfactant TDTMA (1 mg/L) inhibited the filtration rate of juveniles of bivalves, marine mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis), and the removal of cells of the algae (Monochrysis lutheri) from water;
new concepts and new methodology to study interorganismal interactions;

An Amphiphilic Substance Inhibits the Mollusk Capacity to Filter out Phytoplankton Cells from Water;
new facts discovered:
effect of synthetic anionic surfactant (surface active substance) sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS, 4 mg/l) on the kinetics of water filtration by marine mussel (Mytilus edulis) was studied.
SDS can decrease the natural capacity of aquatic ecosystems for self-purification and disturb other aspects of ecosystem functioning through inhibiting the filtration activity of mussels. The obtained data are discussed in the context of environment and hydrosphere protection from pollution.
