February 19 – Best Friends Day

According to SpongeBob SquarePants, February 19 is “Best Friends Day.”

 To celebrate Best Friends Day, Patrick gives SpongeBob a huge mass of gum – “wad” isn't the right word when there is that much gum! – as a gift. SpongeBob finds the gift disgusting, even scary, and he tries to get rid of it several times. Patrick gets in the way of a clean disposal of “Gummy,” and by the end of the episode, the entire city is covered in gum.

I'm not sure what the moral of the story is, but you can choose one of these two ways to celebrate the day:

• Do what Patrick and SpongeBob did – give your best friend (or best friends) a gift today. Be sure to be a better gift-giver than Patrick, though – think about what your best friends would treasure, rather than what you yourself like.

Maybe you and your best friend could buy best friend T-shirts.
