[channelcrossing] New evictions in Calais jungle coming very soon‏

Up to 1000 jungle residents to be evicted according to the prefect, the real number is around 2000 according to the local association L'auberge des migrants. There are well over 4000 people in Calais jungle, 4000 is the government estimate that is always an underestimate. Nearly half of the jungle is to be destroyed , including a school and some mosques, and the residents are given just over one week to move. It costed volunteers thousands of pounds to build the shelters and the school, The church of the Eritrenas is not in the zone to be evicted. Some 750 places have been offered in the containers, 12 bunk beds per container, no facilities whatsoever, no kitchen and not even water, and they will have to give the biometric print of their hand to enter. It is a proper concentration camp. Others have been offered accommodation in varous centres sparse through France, where they are given a month to apply for asylum in France, places however are not sufficient and many asylum seekers are still sleeping in the jungle including women and children.

There will be soon a call out to oppose and resist the eviction.

I attach The Guardian article but is quite imprecise.
