I don't have much luck when it comes to seasonal shower jellies. While the promise of a new product always excites me, it is normally the jellies and gels that I expect the most from - which perhaps gives them an unfair disadvantage to begin with. However, I always view each and every new product with a fresh pair of eyes, and it was no different when it came to this brand new Easter release.
Having been given a sneak preview of Bouncy Bunny Shower Jelly a few weeks before it hit the shops, I was already salivating at the mere thought of a predominantly orange-scented product. Although Lush are notorious for adding Brazilian orange oil into products like it's going out of fashion, there are far too few orange smelling products currently available.Upon arrival, I was a little disappointed to find that both of my jellies did not sport the bright demeanour that the website offered. Rather than a brightly coloured jelly with a beige tummy, I discovered that mine was primarily beige with splashes of orange decorating the surface. Not that it was major concern for me, it just made me wonder whether there was any consistency in the product, or if each and every bunny was unique in pattern.
Either way, I was surprised to find that the jelly sported a fairly reserved citrus fragrance. For a product in which the ingredients list gave no other hint at its scent aside from the inclusion of orange oil, I was expecting the aroma to blow my socks off. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case.
Instead I found that the scent of Bouncy Bunny was fairly reserved. To me, the smell was a straight forward orange smell - very similar to 1000 Kisses Deep but without the complexity of the other components that the fragrance has. On the surface it also reminded me of the inner core of a jaffa cake because of its zestiness, and very much like Brightside Bubble Bar, but a little more simplistic.
Hoping the scent would elevate when it came in contact with hot water, I took the seasonal jelly into the shower with me, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was very generous with its lather. Massaging the slippery product between my hands generated a creamy, slightly oily foam, which glided like silk over my skin and left it feeling beautiful. It was definitely more moisturising than some of Lush's shower gels .Unfortunately, much like Nightwing, I found that the scent all but disappeared once the lather had been washed away. Furthermore, I found that if I was using any other product at the time; shampoo, conditioner or a scrub, or if I had any products open in the bathroom, these items would thwart the fragrance of Bouncy Bunny, and I had to strain my senses to pick up its wonderful orange aroma.
Shaped like a rather enthusiastic-looking bunny rabbit, the product is definitely in-keeping with the seasonal range, and I would definitely agree that it wins full marks when it comes to design. I can really see this being an instant hit with children, and would make a great alternative to chocolate during the Easter celebrations.
However, whether my expectations for Lush's shower jellies have become more demanding because of the likes of Happy Blooming and Magic, and just how strong and long lasting they are, or whether this product just wasn't one that was going to impress me with such a weak scent, I'll never know. All I can say is that if Bouncy Bunny had a far stronger scent and lasted on the skin, I would have easily rated it a five out of six, and would have happily stocked up on a load to keep me going through the Summer. As it is, my three tubs will be more than suffice to see me through the Spring months, and I'll use that extra money to build my army of Tweets.
