It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.
Other Than Reading...
My first week back at school after Christmas Break just flew by. We are in the final push toward the end of the semester and my students are busy trying to get all sorts of projects finished.
We have also had snow, rain, and/or sleet all week. We haven't had much accumulation but the frequent precipitation events have made driving a little treacherous. Luckily, I live very near where I work and haven't needed to leave town very often this week.
Read Last Week
I read Even the Dead by Benjamin Black and thought it was interesting. I found that the pacing was a little too slow for me. I also felt the lack of backstory since I jumped into a series at book 7. My review is here.
Harmony Black by Craig Schaefer was the first book in a new series. I enjoyed the combination of mystery and paranormal and liked the relationship between the two main characters. My review will be posted on January 27.
Currently
Betting the Bad Boy by Sugar Jamison arrived on Friday and will be released on February 2. That release date moved it to the top of my review stack. This is the second in a series about brothers who were raised poor, left town and made good, and have now come back.
Next Week
This is starting to get a little silly. I think this is the third week in a row that I have had these same two review books on the stack for next week. I hope no new review books arrive to move them back again.
- Fighting Dirty by Lori Foster
- The Infamous Heir by Elizabeth Michels
- The Bitter Season by Tami Hoag
- Even the Dead by Benjamin Black
I forgot to include The Drafter by Kim Harrison when I got it. I received an email from a publisher saying that I was eligible for a free ebook. Thinking I could put the book on my Kindle, I chose The Drafter by Kim Harrison which I was mildly interested in reading. So mildly that I didn't want to buy either the hardcover or the Kindle edition because I thought they were too expensive for my amount of interest.
I found that the book could be read on my computer, tablet or phone but not on my Kindle. I don't have a tablet or a phone that I want to read on, so this book sits on my laptop waiting for me to get to it. Reading on my laptop is my least favorite way to read a book.
By choosing it, I also joined a community called Glose which has been bombarding me with emails.
Review Books
Betting the Bad Boy by Sugar Jamison is the second book in a series of Romance stories. I have read the first and enjoyed it. Surprisingly, for a book being released on February 2, I couldn't find a cover anywhere on the web. This one is on my Kindle from NetGalley.
Just This Night by Mari Madison is also a romance. My ARC has a plain pinkish cover. This book will be released on March 1.
On His Watch by Katie Ruggle was a free novella and is available at Amazon. It begins the story that will be continued in four novels which will be released on a compacted schedule. I have the first novel - Hold Your Breath - as an eARC from NetGalley. It will be released on April 5.
Thus far this year, I have added 14 books to my stack. Three are YA books. Six are review books. Twelve are ebooks. The two print books are ARCs. Twelve are still marked TBR.
