Paris rally & march to coincide with Hassan Rouhani’s visit to France
Protest to focus on mass executions, arbitrary sentencing, and export of Islamic extremism
A major rally and march have been scheduled to take place in Paris on Thursday, January 28, coinciding with Hassan Rouhani’s visit to France. The event organizers seek to bring attention to a wave of executions in Iran and the clerical regime’s export of Islamic extremism and terrorism throughout the region.
As Europe prepares for the visit, at least 50 executions have taken place in Iran in the first two weeks of January. There have been more than 2,000 executions during the whole of Rouhani’s tenure. This figure is greater than any equivalent period in the last 25 years. Rouhani has explicitly endorsed the executions as examples of “God’s commandments” and “laws of the parliament that belongs to the people.”
Demonstrators will also address Tehran’s all-out support of Bashar al-Assad and massacre of Syrian people. They will point out that the policy of exporting the “Islamic revolution,” as one of the pillars of the clerical regime, has been vigorously pursued by the Rouhani administration as well.
The rally will be led by Iranian expatriates, who will be joined by French citizens and international supporters of the Iranian resistance. Several renowned human rights organizations have joined in sponsorship of the event.
French parliamentarians from various political parties will be among the speakers at the event, as will political and social dignitaries from France and from across Europe.
Elaborate street performances and exhibitions have been planned for the event, to depict examples of Iranian human rights violations.
Demonstrations are also planned in support of the residents of Camp Liberty, the place of residence in Iraq for members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran. Camp Liberty was targeted by the Iranian regime on October 29, when a barrage of rockets killed 24 residents and destroyed a large portion of the camp.
The demonstrators plan to urge the UN and the US to provide protection to Camp Liberty and its residents.
Venue of the rally: Place Denfert-Rochereau, 75014 Paris
