The VOICE Refugee Forum: Support of the demands of Moneer Alkadri and
Nadia Ghnim from Syria (in Jena - Germany)

Dear Mr Philipps,
I am writing you on behalf of The VOICE REFUGEE FORUM Jena and want to
draw your attention to the case of Moneer Alkadri and Nadia Ghnim. Both
these Syrian refugees have been registered in the Suhl reception center
(Erstaufnahmestelle) from mid-September. Because the situation in the camp
was unbearable and they were discriminated against by various employees,
they approached us and are now in Jena. Moneer and Nadja haven't received
any social benefits ever since the month of September.

Through friends, the couple found an apartment in Jena in which they are
living now. Many groups active in Jena know both of them and are ready to
support them. We all want to find a solution. Moneer and Nadja want a
transfer to Jena and that they be granted their social benefits as soon as
possible - including the months of October till January 2016!

We call on you to meet the demands of Moneer and Nadia, demands that must
be fulfilled for a dignified life without endangerments and avoid the
predicament of being refugees in Thuringia to be possible. If there is no
reaction on your part within two weeks, we will have to go public and
forcefully support the case of the two and their legitimate demands. There
are already many actions planned in order to support them.

You can contact Moneer and Nadia via e-mail: moneer.alkadry@gmail.com

Statement by Moneer Alkadri und Nadia Ghnim from Syria: Demand for
official transfer to Jena and payment of social allowance by State of
Thuringia
05. January 2016.

We spent 47 days of sufferance in the Refugee camp in Suhl. After the
disease Hepatitis that spread out in the buildings we were living in, we
were forced to leave the camp. We had to get out not only because I,
Moneer, have been infected already with hepatitis B and got recovered from
it just a short time ago. Also because of the discrimination and the bad
and inhumane behavior of the workers in building 20. We did not want to
get humiliated anymore, so we were forced to leave the camp. We had
nowhere to go, no place to stay. One of our activist friends in Vienna
suggested us to get in touch with the office of The VOICE Refugee Forum
and go to Jena. We were welcomed with open arms and they supported us as
much as they could. Until today. Now we are living in a flat, which they
found for us. It was offered by a woman sympathizer, who let us live in it
for free. We are here in Germany since about four months without getting
any financial support on social benefit from the government. That is why
we become indebted. At this point we asked The VOICE Refugee Forum to
support us in the struggle for our rights to get our benefits and a legal
transfer to Jena. We just want to start a normal life in Germany without
any pressure.

Although we are registered officially as Syrian refugees in the reception
camp, but the only support and help we received until now have come from
our German activist friends and not from the Thuringian state. They gave
us this support without getting payed, just because they believe in
solidarity.
We are therefore demanding from Thuringian authority to transfer us
immediately to Jena as official residents and to receieve our social
welfare allowance payment from the State of Thuringia.
