Dear friends,
This month marks All Out’s fifth birthday: for five amazing years All Out members around the world have been standing up for love and equality – and we’ve become a force to be reckoned with. Look at what we've achieved in just the last three months.
It’s a crime to be gay in Barbados. So when our partners reached out about a huge anti-equality rally, we knew we had to fight back. Thanks to 1,040 All Out members, we paid for a full-page ad in Barbados’ main newspaper the day of the rally, raising up the voices of lesbian, gay, bi, and trans Barbadians.
Together with our partners in Tunisia, over 82,000 All Out members called for the release of Marwan, a young man imprisoned just for being gay. And it worked! Two days ago, Marwan’s sentence was reduced and now he is free. But Marwan is not alone. Just last week, six other men were also imprisoned for being gay in Tunisia. We'll continue to keep up the pressure until Tunisia’s anti-gay law is struck down.
After 451 All Out members chipped in, we were able to create a beautiful TV advert supporting marriage equality in Australia. Featuring wedding photos of gay and lesbian couples from across the globe, the ad is playing INSIDE Australia’s parliament to remind Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull that the world is waiting for Australia to catch up on equality.
The last few months truly show the power of our movement, Luc: from the Caribbean to North Africa, All Out members are having a real impact in the lives of lesbian, gay, bi, and trans people all over the world.
