Idomeni Refugee Removals; Macedonia Builds Another Fence
December 9
Greek police continued to load refugees onto buses bound for Athens late
this afternoon. At least 38 buses had left Idomeni by mid-afternoon and
a train is standing by to take more people this evening. Some refugees
are resisting and there have been scuffles with police. One activist
reported online seeing Geek police cutting open tents and removing
people by force. NGO workers have been allowed back into the area
immediately adjacent to the border, but journalists are still being kept
away.
Meanwhile the Macedonian army began building a three-metre fence at
Medzitlija, another border crossing with Greece to the west of Idomeni.
According to army sources the fence will be 80 kilometres long and is to
prevent refugee flows shifting there.
