From 4 to 8 December took place in Zaragoza the last Congress of CNT. Given its relevance
to the libertarian movement (in all aspects) and given the noise that accompanies such
events, we wanted to interview someone in the permanent secretariat of the confederal
committee (Organ management at higher levels) to explain to us firsthand his opinion on
what he has seen these days and the practical effects of these decisions. ---- You can get

General of the CNT. First I want to thank the colleagues from Alasbarricadas interest in
the CNT and the celebration of our XI Congress and its important work in spreading
anarchist initiatives and their contribution to the theoretical debate.
Now that you've done, how have you seen in general terms Congress?
In general, we can speak of a particularly productive congress in several ways.
First, the quantity and quality of the papers that were submitted for debate and approval
of the unions. Keep in mind that the CNT has its own rhythms and that Congress is only the
end point of a long process of internal debate that began a year ago. In this congress
unions have presented papers covering very serious and completely fields of action and
strategies of the CNT were to develop, but we will discuss later.
Secondly, we have seen the internal cohesion of the CNT and said the maturity of the
organization. No one is aware that the CNT came to this conference in a very delicate and
difficult internal moment, after the last desfederaciones inoperative small groups and the
problems with the previous Secretary General. However, there has been a united and
determined to make strides CNT. The debate in the plenary has been respectful and fluid,
which had not happened in previous congresses, more tense, and reached a depth and much
higher level of analysis. Also in commissions recast the level of consensus has been very
wide and individual votes cast barely separated in anecdotal details of the majority
presentations. This does not mean that there have been tensions and disagreements, but
that resolution has not been problematic.
Within approved in Congress, what points do you think are the most important?
For starters, the CNT has come to be defined not only as a class organization, autonomous,
self-managed, federalist and internationalist but also as a feminist organization,
understanding that the struggle against patriarchy is inseparable from the struggle
against capitalism and against any form of domination, and indeed union action that has
defined the Congress for the coming years has been impregnated with this view.
Important agreements have been made in communication that will make a major update of the
more effective and adapted to modern times communication strategy of the CNT. As for
social action are some new agreements on public service systems and has faced creating
assemblies of unemployed and job boards unions, among others.
On the internationalist vision of the CNT and its practical realization they have also
taken important agreements, including support for all the struggles for freedom of the
peoples who today are taking place and the importance of strengthening ties between local
workers called and migrants or refugees, as part of the same class that suffer the
oppression capitalism, along with others relating to the AIT.
However, the most important agreements have been reached regarding industrial action,
reflecting clearly the line of the current CNT. In this sense, we have built very
important agreements on working women and has integrated this gender perspective in trade
union action of the CNT. It also reaffirms integration in trade union action of the CNT of
the people who work autonomously and their specific problems.
Very important is the agreement on the extension of Confederal Technical Office, currently
developed in their legal and economic areas. It was decided to create two new areas, a
social area and an area of occupational health. It has also addressed the organization
and coordination of the unions at all levels, which will make its effectiveness and scope
of their struggles multiply.
They have addressed new forms of opposition to the processes of collective redundancies
and job layoffs, as well as collective bargaining.
Very important agreements are those concerning the recovery and collectivization of
enterprises and the anarcho-syndicalist production activity control and work organization,
which is a determination to initiate revolutionary processes passing through the seizure
of the means of production and the comprehensive self-management of society. They recover
to this Economic Defense Commissions and the Council of Confederal Economy. This is not a
toast to the sun not one of those grandiose agreements no later developed and became
common in the CNT of past decades, but there is a clear desire to initiate steps in a
revolutionary and transformative sense. To this it has also agreed to prepare a
socio-economic program and should develop these issues and to which we have given public
presentation within one year. The revolutionary ends of the CNT are inalienable and now
the organization is aware that should already be started this path without turning back,
built on the permanent action and not on nostalgic speeches and empty slogans. The CNT has
been defined as a current and future organization with these agreements.
A question that is often commented upon, what line has CNT against the working, trade
union and popular unity?
The CNT does not have a line defined in this sense it is true that there is full autonomy
at the local level to agree confluences and perform unit processes, and also at the
federal level has participated in such movements. In any case, the unit class can not
finish assuming an ideological solution or waiver of certain principles. Certainly in
Congress they have adopted convergence conditions at union level.
The CNT may not have vocation of hegemony and participate equally in multiple fights that
do not start itself, but it is also true that the CNT is willing to become the reference
for the working class conflict, in reference class struggle.
What practical effects can have this meeting for the working class?
The working class in this subject is terribly disjointed historical moment and has even
failed to recognize itself as subject. In this regard, the appearance of strong references
recognition and stable joint structures from which this recognition and transform it into
a positive creative impulse are of utmost importance. These references and these
structures must be differentiated unions and movements of struggle or resistance generated
from the junction and to make self-management kingpin of action.
In this sense, the CNT is called to occupy a prominent position, because we have to keep
in mind that fortunately or unfortunately the CNT union represents a unique model in the
Spanish society. No other union which is situated at such a level of economic and
political independence and to bet exclusively for implementation unionism, built on
self-management and direct action, and to articulate this practice to such a broad
territorial level. The benefits of this model for the working class are beginning to see
the struggles that the CNT is carrying out victoriously, but also the revolutionary
finalist CNT, our desire to extend the conflict to social level is a start character
systemically important improvement in this time when ideologies seem to have ceased to
exist and that it is precisely from this ideological vacuum from which the system builds
effectively reproduce. Do not forget that we are facing a moment of collapse, which also
means a time of reconstruction, in which the strong concepts, ideological solidity and
practice that offers the CNT will be critical to articulate a movement of revolutionary
reconstruction of society. Pessimism can easily invade, but it is necessary to hope, and
CNT is a great place to have hope.
We have heard that the dabate international relations has been one of the most
controversial. What was the decision on the AIT?
It defined a new organizational approach internationalist, passing denounce the
dysfunctional nature of the current AIT and the implementation of a project of
international expansion which should culminate in the holding of a congress of
reestablishment of an international revolutionary syndicalism without bureaucratic burdens
faced by the current AIT.
Let us be clear: an international option with ability to influence and coordination of
trade union struggles and conflicts is essential at a time when the economy is in such
level of globalization, but we must also be clear that address this process impossible
from tiny organizations made up of a few dozen people who show an appalling sectarianism,
a tendency to authoritarian control bordering on paranoia, a taste for the libertarian far
from bureaucracy and give off a musty odor and reactionary Western ethnocentrism. Congress
has agreed to focus the new International into a more open and flexible relationships that
the strict internal control aims at the present dome, ie, strengthening the autonomy of
the sections.
A new International must understand and appreciate the differences and the specificity of
each organization and cultural contexts in which they are registered and operating in

understanding of the difference.
Congress has been accompanied by a cultural events ( see program ) with a varied proposal,
how do you value?
Unfortunately I can not value them as they deserve, because I have not participated in
them. I think the round tables were organized addressing important and fundamental issues
at the present time of crisis we are living, and meeting the speakers I am sure that its
contents kept pace, plus it is much related to the content of some discussion of the congress.
On the theatrical and musical programming, I only had time to attend the show masterful
Pepe Viyuela. I could not attend performances of Ana Plaza, I was very interested in
content and because Anne is an excellent actress, or to the group's Mancusos, commenting
Zaragoza's companions was a great show.
I think the programming of the cinema provides an interesting mix of historical and
current view and helps to extend the constructive idea of anarchism, but will make a
small criticism, is that I miss a better quality in the selection.
Overall, I think the events have been at the level and content have clothed excellently
Congress. I can only thank the comrades of the CNT who have worked in this conference and
all the speakers and artists who have collaborated.

demo in solidarity with those in prison. Like every year, we go to a refugee prison, where
people are in jail just because they don't have the right kind of papers. To support them
and show they are not forgotten, and also to celebrate with them, we countdown to 00.00
there together. Around 01.00-01.30 we will be back in the MKZ. ---- It's a noise demo so
bring stuff to make yourself heard and to be visible (banners, fireworks, megaphone etc)!
---- We will meet at the MKZ at 22.00 (Eerste Schinkelstraat 14-16, Amsterdam). ----
TRANSPORT ---- We have arranged transport so if you want to come send an email with a name
and number of places to aga@agamsterdam.org. Otherwise we won't be able to guarantee you a
spot. Last year there were more people than the places booked, it's awesome that many
people showed up, but book a seat because we don't want to leave anyone behind. Busses are

The photographer Yann Merlin met in Sicily anarchist writer Moffo Schimmenti. At 66, it
