But on Sunday I was actually looking for the extra hour, probably because my wife was talking about how nice that extra hour would be, warm and cozy in bed. The dog not being able to set his clock back did not want to hear of it. Later in the morning, I decided to go out and do my trail maintenance chore as I had dodged it long enough. He was just delighted with the prospect of a walk in the woods. Somehow he knew of the plan, which is strange in its own right. How does a dog know he is going for a hike, is it the clothing I wear, the pack, the changed in routine. However, he knew our walk was going to be different.
So I packed up the pup, the pack and the tools and off we went . The trail is a total of five miles in length. I cleared some small deadfalls, a few branches that needed to be trimmed were attended to. I found no litter , as our trail is remarkably clean. We walked on and I enjoyed the silence of the Sunday morning.
But the further we went, the more my left foot, specifically the big toe on my left foot began to hurt.
I told my wife that I wanted to stop at the shoe store to measure my feet , for suddenly it had started to feel as if my shoes were too small. All of my adult life my shoe size has been 11. But when I got to the store and stood on that device that is used to measure feet , it measured 12. I chased down my wife in my stocking feet , because I had to have her check it too. Sure enough the dogs measured 12. How can this be, impossible , must be some mistake.
I bought a pair of 12 shoes to replace the 11s on my fee and I immediately sensed that there was a change afoot.
Later when I got home I had to go to Dr. Google to find out how it is possible for feet to grow like that. Well it seems as if it is entirely possible for the ligaments and tendons lose their elasticity and the arches drop and the foot literally spreads out in length and width frequently growing a size or more.
My initial reaction was, why did no one ever tell us this. I asked about and no one had ever heard of this phenomenon. But in thinking it through I decided to pass on the info, for who has not run into a senior citizen who does not complain of foot issues, corns, callouses, bunions, aches pains. Maybe the solution is to get properly fitted shoes. In reading further, I found that this type of thing starts for many people in their 40s, hardly what I would call a senior. So if you have foot problems do not assume that you are a size 11 , even if you have been a size 11 for 40 years you may have big shoes to fill.
Oh, year, I also found that in addition to the feet, the nose and the ears continue to grow as we age.
That ought to be interesting. Long nose and big ears, good time to register Republican.
