I started geocaching back in the days when geocaches were placed only in remote places of wonderful wild attraction or in some place that anyone would want to see and visit, as opposed to the current practice of placement under every other lamp post skirt in every Home Depot or Walmart parking lot. My brand of geocaching usually involves a walk of some distance , most often in the woods and even up hill at times.
In my area there is a former reservoir facility that has been converted into a Nature Preserve, and a fellow geocacher hid a number of geocaches there for all to find. He perhaps oversaturated the area, but is forgiven because he cleverly hid a bunch of them.
Late on Saturday, after chores and only about an hour before sunset I decided to take my pup over to find a couple. We were able to find four. On Sunday morning I asked my wife if my plans to return would interfere with anything and she said no, giving me the go ahead. She is wonderful in that respect, she never complains if I go for a hike or a bike ride and that endears her to me even more. I also try not to abuse the privilege . So on my way over to the preserve, I sent a text to my friend Richard, who replied that he had the very same plan. Great minds think alike, minds like mine just call it a coincidence.
He brought his dog and I brought mine and off we went on a hike in the civilized woods of the preserve. The day was one of those rare days of November when the temperature is perfect, the sky is perfect the company is perfect. Along the way we ran into another friend.. The dog got a good walk in, he got to meet other dogs, I think he enjoyed it, which is good for I sometimes think the dog needs more in his life.
After we finished we went on with our business of the day. My wife and I went shopping , I came home and quickly cut the front lawn, probably for the last time this season, we cleaned up a bit and settled in for the night.
In thinking back I just thought it was a fine day. Nothing really special, just a fine day and for that I am grateful.
