Snow Melt Luxury Bath Oil

While I relish in the news of an exclusive product, I always feel a little anxious when I don't know how limited something is going to be - whether I'll be able to get my hands on the product easily or if I'll have to rely on someone listing it on eBay a few months down the line. Although it is normally the former option thankfully, there are times when I still feel that nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach - brought on by the thought that I'll 'miss out' on whatever it is that I have my heart set on.

Snow Melt Luxury Bath Oil was released during Lush Oxford Street's seasonal pre-release a couple of weeks ago - a bath melt that I almost missed because of its rather plain demeanour. Next to the vivid colours, diverse and rather extensive set of smells, not to mention the endless helping glitter that seems to coat everything this year, this limited edition miniature snow ball is probably not the first choice for most people looking for something exciting to go in their baths.

Brought out as an exclusive for the flagship store, this spherical melt features the usual base of cocoa butter and shea butter to infuse the product with skin-softening properties. Featuring a combination of lemon, olibanum and peppermint oil, this product also offers a crisp and very refreshing winter aroma, albeit one that is not as strong as you would imagine it would be, given the latter ingredient.

This is one of those fragrances that takes a second to hit your senses - one that is dominated by the mint note without the peppermint being too overwhelming in the mix. Alongside this is a generous helping of olibanum, which sits comfortably behind and offers an uplifting and very refreshing pine aroma. The lemon oil is also present in the overall smell, but it's very light, and acts as more of a complimentary component to elevate the other scents than giving the bath melt that much of a citrusy element.

What is disappointing about Snow Melt Luxury Bath Oil is that despite being very light and not particularly bigger than the other Oxford Street bath melts, this one immediately sinks to the bottom of the tub when it is placed in the water. This means that it doesn't present any sort of display on the surface. Although its colour told me that it wasn't exactly going to be the most colourful bathing experience, I was at least hoping for something to watch while it melted.

While I thought that I had simply purchased a 'dud' one, I have since tried it four other times with oils that were taken from different batches, and all of them have reacted in the same way -m which leads me to believe that it's either a product fault or just really bad luck on my part.

Despite this, the bath oil does melt as it should, and decorates the surface of the water with creamy, silver lustre speckled puddles of butters and oils. These soften the water very quickly and you can definitely detect the product working - moisturising and replenishing your skin whilst you're submerged under the water. The fragrance doesn't leave much of an impression on your skin afterwards but it does leave your body smoothened visibly softer.

While it would work well when combined with a more fragrant and colourful bath bomb or bubble bar, it's not really strong enough to be used by itself. Furthermore, and the main reason why I have only given it a rating of three, is that I can see the scent of this being thwarted by almost anything that you choose to add to it. So while it'll still soften and moisturise the skin with anything it's paired with, I'd rather use something with a little more 'presence' in my future baths.
