As expected with Lush, in order to cut down on packaging waste and reduce their carbon footprint, the company are bringing out a lot of products that are either fully naked or at the very least covered with a thin layer of recycled material. It was no surprise to me then when I saw this product featured on the list of new Christmas items.
Salt And Peppermint Bark Body Scrub is everything you could wish for from a mint-orientated product. Containing a generous helping of both peppermint oil and cocoa butter, this product is incredibly refreshing, and not only exfoliates and softens the skin wonderfully, but leaves behind a scent that'll have you salivating from the word go.
Sharing its scent with the incredible Maypole Soap, this solid scrub reminds me of freshly made candy canes and Baked Alaska ice-cream topped with an extra dollop of mint sauce. The peppermint is very much at the forefront, offering a refreshing, uplifting and very clean-smelling scrub. Alongside this is a sugary vanilla note that adds a sweet and very creamy element to the mix - one that helps to make the bark smell very similar to a traditional mint humbug sweet.
Out of the packet, this scrub is beautiful to look at - sporting a light green demeanour with chunks of red and cream-coloured butter decorating the surface. Consistency wise, this solid block feels a little greasy between the fingers and the addition of the salt gives it a gritty but not overly harsh texture on all sides. However, while it does leak a small amount of moisture, it retains it shape during and between uses, and doesn't necessarily need to be stored in a tub when not in use. Packed full of mineral-rich sea salt, this both exfoliates the body and cleanses the pores - leaving your skin feeling super soft and shiny. Despite how smooth my skin felt after use, I found that it wasn't a very rough scrub, so while I was able to remove light dirt and grime from the surface of my skin, I wasn't able to be too overzealous with how much pressure I placed upon the block for fear of it breaking.
Although Salt And Peppermint offers a reasonably strong scent to begin with - one that intensifies a little when in contact with hot water, I didn't find that the fragrance was very strong once I rinsed myself down afterwards. While I could still smell the product on my body for a short time after I had stepped out of the shower, it wasn't strong enough to make an impression on anyone around me and it soon dwindled into the background.
What I did find though was that the scrub was really refreshing on my skin. Despite not making my skin tingle like I was expecting it to, it did offer a cooling sensation that felt rather lovely after working out, when my skin is clammy and heated. While the mint makes it the perfect winter exfoliator, it would definitely also suit the warmer months because of what it does to your skin.
Furthermore, this is definitely a great exfoliator for those who don't want something so scratchy and potentially irritating on the skin, and this solid scrub makes it a lot easier to transport around with you if you're wanting to take it away on holiday. Coupled with Christingle Body Conditioner, this seasonal release is a refreshing and very invigorating experience, and one that makes a wonderful change from the usual fragrances you'd expect to find during this time of the year. While this doesn't replace my love of Rough With The Smooth, it is one I would buy again, and one that I'll be using regularly to wake my skin up during my early morning showers.
