 | Margie wants the Pope to accept her and other gay Catholics. Will you ask him to meet with her when he is in the US this week? | |
Dear friends,
Margie worked in a Catholic school for eight years and was absolutely dedicated to her job and the school. Then she was suddenly fired, just because she is married to a woman.
She is one of hundreds of lesbian, gay, bi and trans Catholics who have been treated unfairly by the Church, just because of who they love.
The Pope has the power to stop this discrimination and in just two days, he is going to the US. It’s a massive chance to push for change.
Margie, her wife Andrea and other lesbian, gay, bi and trans Catholics have asked the Pope to meet them while he’s in the US. He hasn't responded, but he may listen if he sees a huge banner saying that 100K of us back their call. Ask the Pope to meet with Margie:
go.allout.org/en/a/pope_margieImagine it. Next Saturday, the Pope will go to a Festival of Families in Philadelphia. And if we reach 100K signatures on our petition, he'll see our huge banner from his papal motorcade, asking him to meet with Margie, her wife Andrea and other lesbian, gay, bi and trans Catholics.
Will you support Margie and others who have been unfairly treated by the Catholic Church just because of who they love? They want the Pope to meet with them to begin a conversation about full acceptance of lesbian, gay, bi and trans people in the Church.
The Pope once said “If someone is gay and searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?”. But he’s also rejected a ambassador to the Vatican for being gay. And he’s said that children should have straight parents and that transgender people are like nuclear weapons.
When All Out members come together, we amplify the voices of brave activists like Margie. We open doors into the rooms where decisions are made. Like getting the World Health Organisation to meet with Xiao Zhen, a Chinese gay man who survived gay “cure” therapy. And making train company Thalys revamp their equality training after All Out member Mirjam was told off for kissing her girlfriend. Now let’s get the Pope to meet with Margie and other equality activists.
Thanks for going All Out,
Andre, Rose, Leandro, Tile, Holly, Lucy and the rest of the All Out team.
P.S. Margie was fired from her job, just because she loves another woman. Margie and other lesbian, gay, bi and trans Catholics want to raise this with the Pope this week when he visits the United States, but he’s refusing to meet them. Will you ask him to sit down with them? go.allout.org/en/a/pope_margie
