Afghan Taliban Forces Are Now Launching Attacks With Units Of About 500 Fighters

Tolo News: 14 Afghan Taliban Insurgents Killed in Attack on Security Posts in Kunar

At least 14 Taliban insurgents were killed in an attack on security posts in eastern Kunar province on Saturday, local officials said.

In addition, 23 other insurgents were injured during the clashes.

The incident took place in Mano Gai and Chapa Dara districts of the province after more than 500 Taliban insurgents attacked the posts. However they were met by a large-scale response from security forces, provincial police chief Abdul Habib Sayedkhili said.

"An Afghan security soldier was also killed in the attack along with 14 insurgents." Sayedkhili said. "The Taliban insurgents also torched eight shops and four civilian houses in Chapa Dara," he added.

He said that the insurgents have since fled the area.

WNU Editor: What caught my attention in this report was the admission that the attack was done by about 500 Taliban fighters. Even if that number is inflated .... that is still a lot of fighters, and it reflects on the military organizational ability of the Taliban to assemble a large fighting force without the Afghan military knowing about it. To say that this is an ominous development is an understatement.
