The mosaic, which was uncovered below a concrete supporting block under the central Dondukov boulevard, has six colours and is made of natural elements.

Archaeologists suggest that the mosaic covered the floor of a central building belonging to the affluent citizens of Serdica, private bTV station informs.

A hypocaust underfloor heating system made of hollow canals used for transporting air heated at a special furnace, was uncovered under the mosaic.

The moisture under the concrete block presents the greatest challenge to archaeologists for the preservation of the mosaic.
