(en) bastamag.net: Where does this model of self-organization
and democratic confederation? (Excerpt) (fr)
... "Ercan Ayboga: Some of communalist self-organizing structures were born in North
Kurdistan, Turkey, 2007-2008. These experiences are then transmitted to Rojava from 2011.
The confederation itself comes from the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union), a branch of the
PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) founded in 2005. The idea was to democratize the Kurdish
liberation movement, moving away from a party structure to move towards a movement
supported by the entire society. The movement took advantage of the historical legacy as
the Paris Commune (1871), but mostly the Zapatista movement in Mexico. Before, the PKK was
a Marxist-Leninist approach. The party has initiated discussions on the "confederalism"
Democratic in the early 2000s."
