Meet Your ALNBCT Network Board of Directors: Mary Davis, Secretary

Mary P. Davis is a passionate educator devoted to student engagement in their learning journey. She began her career as a Physical Education Teacher in the cornfields of Illinois. She took a graduate teaching assistantship at Auburn University to work on her masters in education with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology. After Auburn, she worked at UAB and later directed the cardiac rehabilitation program at Brookwood Medical Center for 9 years. With the realization that teaching was in her heart, she added a master’s certificate in special education to her resume. Since then her attitude to learn more to help students has led her to an Ed.S. in Teacher Leadership and a master’s degree in Administration. Her quest to reach the gold standard of teaching became a reality in 2002 when she became a National Board Certified Exceptional Needs Specialist and when she renewed her certificate in 2011. She has focused her career on learning how to reach students with a variety of reading interferences. She collaborated with colleagues to design a parent-school reading program and published an article on the program. Finally, she has worked with students at risk for 22 years in both suburban and urban settings.
