Some of the students and intended to be indicted, including three fellow Libertarian
Action-Temuco ---- At present, the Federation of Students of the Catholic University of
Temuco (FEUCT), as a representative body of the students at UCT, is experiencing difficult
times given the conservative lock, and the mechanisms of repression that has carried out
the university administration this university, represented by the rector Aliro Bórquez
Ramirez. Threats and harassment have materialized into two repressive strategies to
students UCT; evictions by Special Police Forces continuously and the execution of a legal
prosecution of and representatives of the Federation through administrative proceedings.
In the Catholic University late last year and early this one has developed a bottom-up
process of organization, opening the way to an incipient politicization and an awareness
of the concrete reality of the conditions in which are the and the college students. This
process with ups and downs, crystallized in the development of a single petition to the
university, where I soon of a broadly democratic process, in which the races were convened
and facultades- elements that primarily involve economic issues are synthesized,
infrastructure, and democracy within the university. Another highlight is the solidarity
and students from manifests to the workers and employees of the university, including in
its petition elements job security and better working conditions.
Mobilizing some campus Saint Francis and Saint John Paul II began on Tuesday, June 23
where the group of students determined the main university buildings was taken, and
dramatically, as the Menchaca Lira (Faculty of Arts) - developing organizational levels
allowed generating a minimum structure to sustain the fight. The Federation and the bases
for career ratified by a large majority the decision to occupation of spaces, opening a
dispute with the university administration, given the stubbornness of those who want to
keep their privileges and status, blocking any progress means better living conditions,
work and study for both students and workers.
The university authority, to deal with the advanced of the student movement of the UCT, is
using the entire framework of the law, to curb the lawsuits, face mobilization, and hinder
substantial progress in organization and politicization of students and this university.
In this regard we appeal urgently to activate networks of solidarity, a multisectoral
approach that can defend, in all possible planes, and to students today face
administrative proceedings (summary), which risk to expulsion. Only solidarity will be
able to cope with the measures of repression and criminalization of legitimate social protest.
