Eric Kempson and his family, living in a house in the beach of EFTALOU . Every night refugee boats arive infront of them made them decide to act in solidarity: Bringing water, bread, blankets to the wet people is one thing , the other is a daily published small report on youtube and facebook, very personnal, and for people used to sensation journalism, a kultural schock:
Eric doesnt film the people! He respects them in the situation they are and just films the nature and tells what happend during the day and his toughts. He keeps us informed and spreads the news .
He shows how tourists and lokals decide to brake the kriminalisation of transporting newcoming refugees by renting cars and bringing them to Mitilini , saving them from 3 days walk through the sun.
Once he thanks the greekcoastguard because he sees them all the time rescuing crowded boats , many a day, the other day he calls for suport:

He reports how tourists suport the refugees buying water and food and taking them in their cars. How lokal families take families at home overnight, restaurant owners allow the refugees to sleep overnight safe in their buildings, how the Major of Lesvos now is absolutely helpfull and understanding. And he shows the Tourist beaches to reasure those who question if they should be afraid to come for holidays in Lesvos .
He talks open about the pressure police authorities make to lokal people who want to help, telling them they would get fines helping....
And that the newly opend tent space in the outscirts of Mitlini , to give a shelter to the 1000 of people that where staying in the harbour, is already after 2 days fully crowded .
Freed people from Moria detention are staying overnight in the streets of Mitilini, since they cant leave to Athens with the boat.Eihert because no boat lives or because no tickets available.
In the meatime the Minister of Migration Mrs Christodoulopoulou gave yeasterday an interview
explaining among others that the detention centers that the new goverment had promised to close have been financed from the European Union with an agreement with the previous goverment to keep them running for 10 years. The European Union wants the money back from the new greek govement , if they close them!!!
Only Moria detention costed around 7 milions. So the goverment is thinking in how many years they could close the detentions so that the amount of fine can be afforded! In the meantime new coming refugees stay few days in detention to get registered and screened.
In Moria the capacity of registering is 200 a day. You can imagine with daily hundreds ariving and over 1.000 refugees on the island what it means.
Apointments for Asylum by skype !!!
The Minister of Migration explaines in the intreview although she is not responsible for detention, but of course she also tries to find solutions with her kollegues . She is responsible for asylum seekers. And that she is ashamed that this doesnt work right know and that they got obliged to avoid the long cues of refugees coming daily trying unsuccesfully to enter the asylum ofice to take an apointment to make their asylum request . That from now on the asylm request rensdevous can only be done by skype!
Sound totaly crazy , probably they have some reasons for it.
Most refugees arive now in Lesvos reports the Greek Coastguard: 285% more than 2013.
In March 2015- 6.583. refugees arived in Lesvos
In April 2015 - 11.873
The decision of the European Migration responsibles to distribute fairly in EU 40.000 new coming Syrian and Eritrean refugees who arived after the 15.5.15 to all europaean countries, is facing negative reactions from France and Spain specially, who disagry.
Germany is suposed to take an amount of 14.000 refugees from Greece .
In the meantime of other island solidarity networks are build:
KOS solidarity, LEROS solidarity.
SAMOS, CHIOS (Lathra), LESVOS (village of all together), RHODOS and other islands with their long term solidarity groups continue their work under hard conditions.
