France, Alternative Libertaire AL #250 - Departmental
Elections to two winners: the FN and abstention (fr, it, pt)
[machine translation] (a-infos-en@ainfos.ca)
Faced with the liberal and austéritaire offensive, the response of working people at the
polls testifies especially a deep disillusionment. Understandably, given the catastrophe
of the "left" to power, but this does not diminish the disturbing nature of the
entrenchment of the extreme right, the massive abstention, which can hardly be interpreted
as revolutionary, n 'hardly lessens. ---- With 50% abstention and rising white vote, not
to mention the tens of thousands of private residents the same right to try to play the
French come again to show at once their rejection of bipartisanship installed by the terms
electoral and disgust before this pseudo-alternating in power bringing "left" and "right"
without anything changing, at least in the interest of workers. And would it still be able
to count separately all those who still vote from time to time, not for a candidate or
party but in a purely tactical gesture to remove a candidate deemed particularly dangerous
... The good souls who strongly evoke compulsory voting with the argument "dead fighters
for democracy" should even hear everything that nobody died for this pseudo-democracy there!
Erasing electoral organizations
Unfortunately we must admit that this massive use of abstention does not correspond to a
rise of popular self-organization. However, with thirty-one pairs elected in fourteen
departments, some in the first round, it is clear local roots, limited but real, of the
FN. It remains to monitor the decisions and policies laid by these elected officials but
also to observe the medium-term consequences on the FN itself of this integration in the
management and the traditional political game.
Similarly, if erasing electoral authoritarian organizations opens renew hopes of utopias
and libertarian practices, poor scores do not send at this stage a positive signal. With
applications for variable geometries, in alliance with the PS or NPA following the scene,
the PCF continued its slow decline. In most departments kept by some Socialists, elected
PCF rushed into the majority of management by occupying the vice-presidencies. The
internal fractures within the party still will deepen with the preparation of regional
elections in December, with the PS in the first round, or not? To say nothing of the
partners of the Left Front, turkey stuffing, whose credibility comes dangerously close to
zero ... Finally, the far-left organizations (LO, POI, NPA) in big trouble, could not
present a score of candidates whose scores were generally insignificant.
In industrial towns, particularly in popular cities it is not uncommon that abstention
reached 70%. There 's no so massive switch of the working class to the FN. There 'has also
no workers among the 62 elected FN. But disillusionment and discouragement that do not
allow to come to see the responses, the answers that would break the liberal offensive and
austéritaire. Yet this alternative then the workers must successfully bring out as a
response to impasses of liberal or reformist left and as response to alarming progress of
the FN.
