While I wasn't overly excited about the Granny Takes A Dip Bubble Bar, I assumed that I would enjoy it nonetheless. Looking as stunning as its sibling bath bomb, this exclusive product is slightly smaller in size - coming in at roughly 7cm wide and 2cm deep. Despite its shrunken appearance, the bar is big enough to see you through two very generous baths so it's equal in value to the ballistic edition in this sense.
Containing lemon, black pepper and ginger oil, this bubble bar shares its scent with its older brother - offering a very unique, creamy and slight citrusy fragrance. It is the former two ingredients that dominate the smell of this bubble bar, alongside a very delicate but equally decadent vanilla aroma that pads it out and gives it that extra comforting element. As with the bath bomb, this product gives off a mixture of vanilla and lemon - not unlike the gentle aroma of sherbet or the thin layer of dusting you find on the surface of Lemon Bon Bons. Underneath this is a very subtle spicy note, which comes from the black pepper and ginger combined. While I couldn't detect the ginger very strongly in the packet, the heat of both of these spicy ingredients comes out a little more once the product has been introduced to the heat of the water. Then I was able to make out a peppery layer that gave Granny Takes A Dip a wonderful multi-layered fragrance in the tub.
Unfortunately, while the bath bomb offered a very colourful and entertaining experience in the bath, this bubble bar edition did the very opposite. As usual, I crumbled half of this under the running water and watched as my bath quickly filled up with light, fluffy bubbles. Despite the vivid design of the product, I discovered very quickly that these colours did not influence the shade of the water and I was left with a tub of rather murky-grey looking liquid. Furthermore, within five minutes of submerging myself under the water, I found that I was not able to detect the scent of this bubble bar at all anymore. As the bubbles began to disperse, I realised that I was bathing in water that neither looked or smelled like it had had a bubble bar crumbled in there in the first place.
While the water was silky-smooth and my skin felt velvety-soft after I had exited the bath, the experience itself was not one I was interested in trying out again. Strangely, I was able to detect a subtle powdery, lemon aroma on my skin after I had towelled myself down but this didn't last that long and was soon thwarted by the perfume I sprayed on myself afterwards. This is not a product I was would use again, especially not exclusively by itself. While I would include it as part of a cocktail if I was ever to receive one in a gift set, it's not strong enough or impressive enough to hold its own in the bath. A rather disappointing product in my eyes.
