The Experimenter Bath Bomb was the first glimpse into what was to become Lush's flagship store on Oxford Street - a stunning multi-coloured bath bomb cut from the same mould as the popular Magic Ballistic. Sporting a combination of flamingo-pink, blue, purple, white and gold, this beautiful product is everything you would expect from Lush, and more. Described as a 'bath time motion picture', this new release features vetivert oil as one of its main ingredients. This impressive root boasts both an earthy and smoky aroma, which means that this bath bomb gives off quite a strong-smelling and rather complex aroma.
By itself, the vetivert would have been quite intense and perhaps a little too heavy for most consumers. For this reason, Lush have also included a combination of tonka and vanilla absolute to soften the scent - giving the bath bomb a gentle sweetness to it that brings all of the notes together wonderfully. While it doesn't possess the same scent, The Experimenter would be well-suited for fans of All Good Things Liquid Perfume as they both showcase a perfect balance between the candied notes and the stronger, more complex elements.
While the strong presence of vetivert would suggest that it should appeal to a more male-dominated audience, the inclusion of the vanilla and tonka rounds the fragrance off perfectly and gives it a complex, multi-layered smell that would appeal to people of all ages and personal preferences. The bath bomb is a loud fizzer so takes a little time to fully dissolve in the tub - allowing you to enjoy the visual display of colour as it ebbs out across the surface. Once it hits the water, you're able to enjoy beautiful, vivid trails of blues and yellows, pinks and greens - all swirling and integrating with each other to form a stunning blanket of colour to reside under.
Once the ballistic has finally dissolved, you're left with an intriguing, if slightly disappointing tub of dark grey liquid - a colour that is rather anti-climatic after the display the bath bomb offered to begin with. Furthermore, while the inclusion of popping candy gives the whole experience an extra element of surprise, it doesn't seem as exciting when you're left with a bath that looks so drained of colour and unappealing.
What is great about this bath bomb is that the smell stays prominent throughout the entire experience - offering short, sharp bursts of fragrance that help you to feel really relaxed and calm throughout the whole process. Furthermore, once you leave the bath, you're left with a gentle smoky smell on your body that makes your skin smell beautiful and seems to compliment any perfume that you might wish to apply afterwards. Overall, I really enjoyed using this bath bomb and it was a great start to my long, expensive but equally very exciting journey across Lush Oxford Street's extensive range of exclusives. The Experimenter is a very sensual bath bomb - one that is very different from any other ballistic that Lush currently offer in their regular range. For this reason, I can imagine it being a very popular seller in the store, and is definitely one that I will re-purchase when I next make a stop at the flagship store.
