The biggest bane in my life right now, is soap. Body lotions, shampoos, massage bars, shower gels and jellies all seem to be fairly easy to use up, and I find that after twelve months my collection may not have gotten smaller, but the products I own are fresher and more up-to-date. However, my soap collection just keeps expanding at an alarming rate, and by the time that I've finished a 100g block, there's four or five more added to my stash. For this reason, I've made it my goal to reduce my collection by 50% before October of next year.
On my journey of reduction, the first soap to grab my attention was Canadian Maple, which is surprising given that it's one of the most boring soaps to look at. My block was a creamy beige colour all over, although reading other people's reviews, most pieces are normally decorated with sugar crystals on top - adding an exfoliating element to the soap.
What first attracted me to this product was it's scent; a warm, sensual aroma that's proven to be great company during these colder months. Made using both coconut oil and maple syrup, this soap is soft to touch and creates a similar texture of lather in the shower. Although it can be a little rigid to use, it's not as stubborn as some soaps, so produces a satisfactory amount of foam to wash yourself with.
To me, this soap didn't smell that far off of Angel's Delight, a particular favourite of mine. It possessed the same sugary scent, just without the sweet sherberty element that makes the above soap rather superior to most that Lush have released. For this reason, it pales in comparison to other, stronger-scented soaps.
Unfortunately, this soap is glycerine-based, which means it's nowhere near as creamy as it could have been, which I think, would have made it so much more appealing. Canadian Maple does lather up fairly easy, and leaves your skin feeling rather soft, but it's not as moisturising as other soaps I've used from Lush recently.
Despite it being a gentle and soothing product that leaves your skin silky and smelling sweet, I don't feel that this soap is particularly cleansing, and I tend to use it after I've already lathered myself with shower gel - making it a rather pointless product to buy.
This is in no way a bad soap, and it does it's job fairly well. However, it pales in comparison to most other Lush soaps, and doesn't offer you anything particularly special to make you want to buy it again. I was a little dissappointed that the maple syrup element wasn't more prominent it's fragrance, although this could have been due to it's age.
I would perhaps be tempted to trial a small fresh piece of this, just to see if age has had anything to do with the lack of scent. However, it's not a product I would rush out to buy again.
