Many Con'Cat'ulations to mew both!

Now without holding up proceedings any further here's effurything mew effur wanted to know about these magnificent K9's from their Mom's point of view.

      1)      Our pups Missy & Buzz are a little over 3,5 years old & came to live with us at 8 weeks of age. A friend of ours had rescued the pups’ mommy, a neglected Boxer girl by the name of Jolene, along with her litter of 9 puppies. Our friend Vanessa adopted Jolene, but was looking for forever homes for the puppies. Missy & Buzz found theirs with us in September of 2011 when we lived in the D.C. suburbs of Ashburn, Northern Virginia. My husband Ian’s military orders brought us to rural NC in late 2013.

I myself, Barbara, am a professional dog walker & pet sitter. I mainly take care of dogs & cats, but also have the occasional bird and ferret client!
2)      Our pups are actually Boxer/Chow-Chow mixes ~ we found out after having done a DNA test. Although they appear to be black, they really are a reverse brindle (black with brown coloring), and they each have a few black spots on their respective tongues.
3)      Buzz is our ball boy ~ he LOVES playing fetch, preferably with his chuck-it ball! Missy is our racer puppy & water rat ~ she loves to run & swim, but she’s not a fan of rain, whereas Buzz will even play fetch in it! She once outran a rabbit while Ian was distracted with picking up her poop ~ her leash just slipped right through his hands. Missy caught the rabbit, but didn’t kill it. She just kept it between her paws and nudged at it, as if to see if it would squeak..the poor bunny must have suffered several heart attacks…
4)      Although we started handling the pups’ paws the day they came to live us, Buzz hates having his nails trimmed. Missy on the other hand is perfectly well behaved when the nail trimmers come out!
5)      We believe in regular, daily exercise, and start our mornings with a structured walk, meaning we don’t allow any pulling or lunging. We’re proud to say the pups are very well behaved on leash! Unless it’s too hot for it, the pups wear doggie backpacks on our morning walks ~ they provide both physical as well as mental stimulation & contribute to a balanced state of mind.
6)      You may have guessed it by now: I believe in responsible dog ownership, and put a lot of emphasis on continued socialization throughout the pups’ lives, breed-specific exercise, obedience training, as well as healthy nutrition.
7)      I started blogging about my canine passion in August of 2014. I’ve always enjoyed writing and figured “why not write about my favorite topic and share it with like-minded individuals?” The coffee add-on to my blog’s name K9sOverCoffee was inspired by my morning routine of reading (news) articles over a nice, hot cup of coffee!
8)      I am currently working on running my very own pet sitting business ~ so far, I have worked for two wonderful pet sitting companies I have learned a lot from, Pick Of The Litter Pet Care in Ashburn, VA & Ark Angels Pet Care in Sanford, NC. I will be providing my own pet sitting services as K9sOverCoffee Pet Services as of April 1st of this year ~ this is exciting news for me, so wish me luck!
9) Unfortunately, my hubby is highly allergic to cats, so we can’t share our home with any felines :-( Thankfully, I get my kitty fix with my pet sitting jobs!
10) One of my favorite experiences in my years as a responsible dog owner has been participating in the Cesar Millan National Family Pack Walk in 2012. It took place on the National Mall in Washington D.C., and the pups & I participated in the walk, and helped raise awareness about balanced relationships between dogs & their owners, pet overpopulation & the importance of spaying & neutering [Ian couldn’t come as he was deployed to Afghanistan].
I made the pledge of supporting rescue dogs and therefore don’t take my business to any pet stores selling dogs (and/or cats), as I don’t support the puppy mill industry. I personally will always adopt rescue dogs, whether from a shelter or a breed specific rescue group.
