It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (March 9, 2015)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Last week's quiet schedule let me get a lot of reading done. I didn't have any meetings or appointments and could just go home after work and cuddle into my couch. Since we had some really cold days last week, that was just what I wanted to do.

This coming week is filled with reading distractions. Monday evening we have Parent-Teacher conferences until 7:30. Wednesday evening a friend and I are going out to celebrate her birthday (at Texas Roadhouse). On Thursday afternoon, I need to go to Conciliation Court to try to resolve the problem with our townhouse association's delinquent tenant. That means writing sub plans so that a substitute teacher can cover my Thursday afternoon classes. This is only tricky for the 4th grade but still will take some extra time to do.

We have Friday off to compensate for working Monday evening but I decided to try to fill it up with an oil change appointment and an appointment to get my taxes done. Also, Friday evening our girls' basketball team is playing for the section title. It should be a really exiting game because we've played our opponent twice and split the games.

I am really looking forward to next weekend for some relaxing and reading time.

Read Last Week
 
Skandal by Lindsay Smith is the sequel to Sekret and continues Yulia's adventures as a teenager with psychic powers. It is set in 1964 and the time period is really well done. I enjoyed this story. My review will be posted on April 9.

The Mystery Writers of America Cookbook: Wickedly Good Meals and Desserts to Die For edited by Kate White arrived in my mailbox for review this week. I liked the variety of recipes and loved the gorgeous photos of many of the recipes. The introductions of each recipe by the author who submitted it were also interesting. My review will be posted on March 25.
 
I read The Paper Magician and The Glass Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg from my TBR mountain this week. I thought they were both wonderful and original fantasies and can't wait for the third book in this trilogy to be released on June 2.  My review for The Paper Magician will be posted on April 4 and my review for The Glass Magician will be posted on April 9.
 
I read two more books from my YA review stack.

The Pretty App was a contemporary novel by Katie Sise. I enjoyed it but think I would have liked it better had I read The Boyfriend App first. My review will be posted on April 11. 

Dream a Little Dream by Kerstin Gier begins a new trilogy. I really liked the main character in this one and thought both the paranormal aspects and the mystery were well done. My review will be posted on April 8.
Finally this week I read Lion's Share by Rachel Vincent. She self-published this first book in a spinoff series from her popular Werecats series. I enjoyed the romance and I enjoyed a chance to visit the world again. I look forward to more books in this series. My review will be posted on April 11.

Currently
Dear Hank Williams by Kimberly Willis Holt is the next book on my YA review stack. This middle grade novel is told in letters and takes place in 1948. I have just read the first letter and look forward to knowing more about the main character.

Next Week
All three of the adult books I have on the stack for this week are from my TBR mountain and were purchased in 2015.

I chose Demon Hunting in a Dive Bar and Demon Hunting in Dixie by Lexi George because they are the first and third books in a series. I have already read book two and want to complete this trilogy.

Written in Red by Anne Bishop was a Kindle Daily Deal. I had seen this book around before and was interested. The only problem is that it is the first of a series and two more books are available. Reading one and buying two doesn't help me lower TBR mountain. In a way, I hope I don't like it so I won't want to read the others.
The three young adult books on my stack are all review books that will be released in April.

Archie Greene and the Magician's Secret by D. D. Everest is a middle grade fantasy that will be released on April 21.

Every Last Promise by Kristin is a young adult contemporary that is also scheduled for an April 21 release.

The Secrets We Keep by Trisha Leaver is another young adult contemporary that will be released on April 28.

Want to See What I Added to My Stack Last Week?
I still have 12 TBR mountain additions from 2015 to fit into my reading calendar. I need to keep reminding myself that Kindle Daily Deals aren't deals if I don't have a plan for when I can read the book.
