As I stated in my review of the liquid perfume, this fragrance was one of first ones that grabbed my attention when Lush unveiled them last year. Described as 'a sweet, boozy stumble down a basement staircase in a cloud of candy floss and black pepper', it sounded right up my alley, and thankfully it lived up to my expectations.
When I discovered that Lush had sneakily released the solid version earlier this month, with no prior promotion or announcement, I was a little confused. Why would they bring out one of their potential best sellers but say absolutely nothing about it's presence? Regardless of their reasons, this solid perfume has become a firm favourite in my household.
Much like its liquid sibling, All Good Things Solid Perfume is made from a combination of cedarwood, rose and cade oil with a generous helping of tonka absolute to boot. It is the former ingredient that first makes it's presence known in the tin - a note that although rather strong and slightly pungent, is very much softened by the inclusion of the rose oil and tonka absolute.
In fact, both of these latter ingredients immediately make themselves known as well, and rather than coming out more when the perfume begins to mature on your skin, they're there from the start. Whereas some consumers might dislike the strong burnt smell of the fragrance in liquid form, the solid perfume allows them to experience the whole picture straight away, which is much more pleasing. For this reason, you not only get the strong, smoky side of the cade oil right away, but you get the sweet and very gentle rose aroma with the thick, creamy and very vanillary element of the tonka. Together, these three ingredients create a stunning sugary sweet but equally complex scent. It's been described by some people as a more mature Snow Fairy, and while I agree with that sentiment to an extent, I think the sweet side of this perfume is more sophisticated and far more interesting than Snow Fairy.
While I would say that it leans more towards the feminine side, it's not exclusive to a female audience and I'm sure that there are many men out there that would appreciate the fragrance as well.
What is good about the solid version is that there's less 'loss' when you're applying it. Whereas you'll lose some of the spray of the liquid format through evaporation, this format allows you to apply the perfume directly to the areas of your body that you wish to, so you get to utilise the whole product without wasting any. Furthermore, you can use this in conjunction with the liquid format - applying the liquid perfume in the morning and then topping up with this throughout the day to give you a good few hours worth of wear.All Good Things impressed me even more by lasting for considerably longer than most other solid perfumes I have tried from Lush. Once applied to the skin, I found that I could still detect it some 3-4 hours later and I only needed to dab a little on my wrist twice to see me through a full working day.
Having said this, I didn't find that this mellows on the skin all that much - most likely because it presents all of its layers straight away. However, this is actually the reason I really enjoyed using this solid perfume - you know exactly what you're getting right away and you can enjoy the scent for hours at a time.
This is definitely one of my favourite solid perfume offerings from Lush and it'll be one I keep in my handbag wherever I go. If only Lush had chosen to promote this a little more, many other fans around the world might be enjoying this wonderful All Good Things right now.
