Abstract
A potential role of  a submerged, free-floating aquatic plant, Ceratophyllum demersum (hornwort, rigid hornwort, coontail, or coon's tail) in water self-purification was studied in this publication.
In the presence of this aquatic plant (macrophytes Ceratophyllum demersum) in water system, it was occured that the rate of a decrease in concentrations of heavy metals (cadmium; copper; lead; zinc; ) in water medium increased. At the end of the incubation period, in the water systems with the aquatic plant, the final concentrations of these key heavy metals was less than in the control systems (without the plants). The aquatic macrophytes served as a factor to speed up the natural  water purification process in the aquatic system.
