Dear Luc,
Tomorrow, Europe will vote on whether to denounce a new anti-gay bill advancing in Kyrgyzstan. If passed, anyone could be thrown in jail for saying something deemed “too gay”. Now a Kyrgyz politician even called for all gay and lesbian people to be publicly executed.
Europe gives hundreds of millions in development funding to Kyrgyzstan. If the EU protests the anti-gay law, politicians in Kyrgyzstan will take note. This could be enough to stop the law.
The vote is in less than 24 hours and a key member of the European Parliament has agreed to deliver our petition to the Parliament just before the vote. Sign to call on Europe to denounce this new anti-gay bill:go.allout.org/en/a/kyrgyzstan This anti-gay bill would be more extreme than Russia’s anti-gay laws. It could mean imprisonment just for writing about lesbian, gay, bi or trans people. It could encourage even more violent attacks on people just because of who they love.
After 7,000 All Out members signed an urgent petition, we pushed the President of Paraguay to sign a historic resolution to protect gay, lesbian, bi and trans people on the American continent. And when hundreds of thousands of us protested Russia’s anti-gay laws around the Sochi Winter Olympics, we got the International Olympic Committee to change their rules to ensure host cities abide by the anti-discrimination clause of the Olympic Charter.
Now we could get one of the most powerful regions to speak out against this anti-gay law.
Thanks for going All Out,
Andre, Guillaume, Rose and the rest of the All Out team.
P.S European politician Beatriz Becerra Basterrechea just passed on this message to All Out members: "As an elected Member of the European Parliament, I am keen to make the voices of All Out members heard in tomorrow's debate about Kyrgyzstan's extreme anti-gay bill. The more people that sign the petition, the stronger the message to the European Parliament that they must denounce this proposed new law." Sign now:go.allout.org/en/a/kyrgyzstan
