It wasn't until I started collecting Lush products that I began to establish my preference of particular scents. Before then, I had never owned a perfume and I had no interest in going through the hundreds of different varieties available in the shops. Once I had obtained my initial bottle however, it wasn't long until I began to take a keen interest in Lush's range, and have since amassed almost 75 different scents altogether.
Love was one of the first perfumes I chose to purchase online, and one of many that I took a risk on and ended up falling in love with. First released in 2011, this perfume was inspired by Mark Constantine's observations of his children falling in and out of love over the years. Designed to capture the very essence of those raw emotions, the perfume features a handful of ingredients to give it a rather unique aroma.
Containing lemon, lemongrass, bergamot, apple, cinnamon, cassia, jasmine, rose and ylang ylang, you would initially expect this perfume to be a rather heavy and overpowering one. Suprisingly, it's quite the opposite.
Although it's rather difficult to dissect this complex fragrance, my nose initially detected an apple and cinnamon element, which gives Love a lovely gentle spiciness and makes the overall scent a rather warming one. Intertwined with this is a rather tart lemon smell, which would probably be too bitter by itself, but somehow manages to hide behind other smells to mask it's sourness. On the skin, the lemongrass dominates the scent - giving off a crisp, fruity and thoroughly uplifting smell. Once the perfume has settled on the body, you begin to notice the floral elements seeping through - a rich and seductive hint of jasmine mixed in with a delicate helping of rose. Together, these ingredients make this perfume both youthful and grown-up as there is something here for everyone.
If you're looking for a perfume to see you through the warmer months, this is the one for you. Although it's light and fruity, don't just assume it's going to smell like your typical citrus scent. It's one of those perfumes that needs to be tested in order for you to understand the complexity of it's smell.
On the skin, this perfume lasts a good four to five hours, so it's not as withstanding as other Lush perfumes, but it does hold its presence for a while. I'd say that it's definitely more of a daytime scent than an evening one, and would be an amazing companion to take on holiday.
Love is a unisex fragrance that I adore and I only wish that Lush would bring out more products featuring this scent. I always carry a sample of this in my bag to top up with throughout the day, and it never fails to lift my spirit and improve my mood.
