Our cover:

Pablo Picasso?s ?Don Quixote? was done as a sketch on
August 10, 1955 for the 350th anniversary of the publication of the
first part of Miguel de Cervantes? Don Quixote , and printed in the
French journal Les Lettres Fran?aises for August 18?24. It has subse-
quently been reproduced millions of times. Usually seen as Cervantes?
satire of knightly ideals, the novel has outgrown its own skin and Don
Quixote now often stands for an idealism, usually seen as unrealistic,
that takes on the injustices of the world. ?Quixotic? has become a
term as loaded as ?Utopian? in describing those who persist in believing
wrongs can be overcome and justice created by human idealism.
Picasso?s sketch is as ambiguous as the novel, leaving it to the viewer
to admire or deride the impractical knight and his very practical
squire Sancho Panza. Either way, we are happy to as sociate ourselves
with the spirit of Picasso?s image.
