I think it's such a shame about all of the negativity that has surrounded the release of the perfumes this year. While I recognise that Lush are in the wrong, and there have been a lot of contradictory responses made on their part, the whole charade has ultimately ruined my excitement and initial experience of each of the new scents.

What's disappointing, is that Lord Of Misrule Liquid Perfume is easily one of the greatest fragrances that Lush have ever released, and certainly one of the most amazing scents to ever grace my senses. Had I not gone through the multiple emotions I have experienced this week in regards to the under-filling of these bottles, I might have been relishing in my new found favourite product. As it is, the whole experience has dampened my excitement somewhat.

Having said that, there's no other way to describe this perfume aside from incredible. It's everything I look for in a fragrance, and more.

Firstly, this perfume smells identical to the bath bomb it is based on- something that Lush can always be relied upon to do. I don't think I've ever bought a perfume from them that hasn't smelled exactly as it should do, and this one isn't an exception.

With a combination of patchouli and black pepper oil, as well as vanilla absolute, Lord Of Misrule is a unique and rather exquisite perfume. The former oil is definitely the dominating note in the scent - a sweet but rather earthy addition to the overall smell. Vanilla absolute is perfectly balanced alongside this - softening the dryness of the patchouli scent and adding a welcome sweetness to the mix. It's a musky, creamy vanilla - very much like you would expect in the Vanilla Dee-Lite Lotion or Vanillary Perfume. Finally, the black pepper oil sits behind both of these notes and offers a spicy kick, without the harsh, overpowering aroma you would expect from fresh pepper corns.

Together, these three ingredients compliment each other perfectly and offer a perfume unlike anything else I have ever experienced before. While fans of All Good Things might appreciate the inclusion of the pepper here, I cannot say that any of Lush's previous perfumes resemble this wonderful release.

On the skin, this perfume works it's magic in many ways. Firstly, the fragrance is one of the longest-lasting ones I have experienced to date - I sprayed this on my wrists at 6am before work and could still smell remnants of it at 7pm that very same evening. I shouldn't have to mention that I received numerous compliments throughout the day, and even had a colleague attempt to haggle me for bottle.

Not only this but Lord Of Misrule matures and develops wonderfully with the heat of your body. While an initial spray might seem a little overwhelming for those who aren't overly keen on patchouli, the fragrance settles quickly on the skin and offers the wearer a sweet but distinctly earthy aroma.

Despite the strength of this perfume, I wouldn't say it's particularly masculine or feminine, so can be worn by anybody and everybody. It draws the perfect line between sweet and sophisticated - a perfume that is made to be a signature scent. I don't think that the four bottles I have purchased will be around for very long.
