After my recent experience with Aqua Mirabilis, a precedence was set and my expectations elevated for what I was looking for in my next body butter. Having been blown away with the aforementioned product, I was hoping that this bar would offer me an equally amazing experience.
Unfortunately for Schnuggle, it's uninteresting design and scent didn't make an impression on me immediately, and like many before it, was buried underneath other, more exciting products. It was only when I decided to update my inventory last month that I found it alongside many of the products I'll be reviewing in the coming weeks.
Made from a combination of ginger, sandalwood and jasmine oils, this recipe of smells didn't automatically appeal to me on paper. To me, this body bar is dominated mostly by the former ingredient, with an element of chamomile that sits alongside it and masks the sharpness of the ginger. Both the sandalwood and lavender also make an appearance, but their aromas are only fleeting ones - there's not enough of either smell to really say their presence is there. Overall, the fragrance of this product is really difficult to describe - all I know is that it's not a particular great one.
To use, I would recommend that you lather this all over your body just before you're planning on exiting the shower. Try to keep the bar away from the flow of the water as you don't want it too wet - this body bar will disappear rather quickly if it's exposed to too much water. I tend to step outside the spray of the water when I apply this bar, rubbing my skin in a circular motion to remove stubborn skin and stimulate blood circulation just below the surface. Then simply rinse off and pat yourself down as per usual.
Like Buffy, I found that Schnuggle tends to make my skin feel very slightly greasy when in the shower, although this does disappear somewhat when I towel myself down. Unlike other body butters, this one doesn't seem to have anything inside of it to exfoliate - instead working as more of a moisturiser than a scrub.
When lathering across my body, I found that this bar leaves a thin layer of white cream, which washes away easily under running water. Lush claim that it 'cleans in a chalky-smooth way', which I would definitely agree with. What I was left with was skin that shone and was rather oily to touch. Once I had dried myself off, my skin did feel clean and soft, although it didn't really feel all that different from how it would do after any normal shower.
I did notice a slight lavender scent remained on my skin, although this didn't remain for long and was easily masked by my body lotion/perfume.
Schnuggle is supposed to make your skin feel soft and smooth without feeling oily - allowing you to put on clothes or get into bed without soiling the sheets with any excess oils. While I agree that this is definitely the case, I would much rather use a body butter that improves the condition of my skin, and just find the time to 'dry myself off' before I reapplied any clothing.
While this solid body butter wasn't bad at all, it didn't offer me anything that a regular shower product couldn't do as well. And given that it works out a lot more expensive than a bottle of my favourite gel, it's not a product I will invest in regularly.
Quantitative Ingredients: Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Corn Starch (Zea mays), Kaolin, Magnesium Carbonate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Lavender Oil (Lavandula hybrida), Ginger Oil (Zingiber officinale), Sandalwood Oil (Santalum album), Chamomile Oil (Anthemis nobilis), Jasmine Absolute (Jasminum officinale), Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool, Perfume.
