Roadworks unearth classical tomb in NW Peloponnese

Archaeological finds have come to light in the area of Kyllini, just outside the village of Kato Panagia, in the northwest Peloponnese.

The finds were revealed during the the construction of a road connecting the port of Kyllini with the new Patras-Pyrgos Highway.

The operators who stumbled upon the finds immediadetly alerted the local archaeological ephorate, which in turn started excavations.

According to the ephorate's director, Ms. Georgia Hatzis, the remains are those of a tiled tomb dating to classical times.

The interest of archaeologists has now shifted about one metre beyond the grave where an ancient refuse pit has been located.
