It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (Nov. 3, 2014)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

A surprise meeting Tuesday evening marred my otherwise meeting-free week. However, I still had a lot of time to read. Unfortunately, one of the books I read this week really dragged taking me four days to finish it. However another was really amazing and I just flew through it.

This coming week is the end of our first quarter of the school year. That means I will have grading to do for the 250+ students I worked with this quarter. I will begin early in the week after seeing each group for the last time this quarter. That will spread out the work nicely. Friday is a staff development/workday combination. I haven't heard yet what we will be doing for the staff development part but I hope it is better than our last staff development day.

I am all caught up on my blogs. I spent the morning downloading books from Edelweiss for review and adding them to my review calendars. I also caught up on posting book reviews to Amazon. Since I usually read books in advance of publication, I designate a couple Sundays a month to catch up with the books that have since been published. I also set up blog posts for the next books on my review stack.

The clocks are all updated, the last load of laundry is in the dryer, and the menu is planned for the next couple of days. I really should do dishes and vacuum but I'd rather read. Housekeeping will wait!

Read Last Week
I began the week with two books from my TBR mountain.

Unbinding by Eileen Wilks was the latest in her World of the Lupi series. It was entertaining but I missed many characters that I have grown to like from earlier books. My review will be posted on November 22.

Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld was an amazing new YA story about a young author. Alternate chapters are from her novel. I loved the insight into the world of publishing and writing. My review will also be posted on November 22 for this book.
Next I read two thrillers from my review stack.

Sleep with the Lights On by Maggie Shayne is the first in the Brown and De Luca series. This one was a miss for me. While the characters seemed interesting, I had some problem with the mystery. I thought there were too many coincidences. I never really got into the story. My review will be posted on November 27.

I also read Her Grave Secrets by Kendra Elliot which is the 3rd of the four Rogue River novellas. This one stars Stevie and Zane who are both police officers investigating the growing drug problem in their small Oregon town. My review will be posted on Nov. 26.

Currently
I am almost finished with Snake Bite by Andrew Lane. I love this series about a young Sherlock Holmes.

Next Week

All my next up books are from my review stack.
Wake to Darkness by Maggie Shayne is the second book in the Brown and De Luca series. I got it from Amazon.

Undercity by Catherine Asaro is the seventh book in the Skolian Empire science fiction series but starts a new series within the greater series. It will be released on Dec. 2.
Suspicion by Alexandra Monir will be released on December 9. It is supposed to be dramatic, fast-paced and twisty.

Princess of Thorns by Stacey Jay will be released on December 9 too. It is also supposed to be fast-paced and is listed as a fantasy adventure.
