Louise Gluck's 'Faithful and Virtuous Night' on the TS Eliot Prize shortlist!

Carcanet is delighted to announce that US poet Louise Gluck's collection Faithful and Virtuous Night has been shortlisted for the 2014 TS Eliot Prize

The news was announced yesterday morning through the Poetry Book Society website and the other shortlisted poets include Fiona Benson (Jonathan Cape), John Burnside (Jonathan Cape), Michael Longley (Jonathan Cape), David Harsent (Faber), Hugo Williams (Faber), Ruth Padel (Chatto & Windus), Pascale Petit (Seren), Kevin Powers (Sceptre), and Arundathi Subramaniam (Bloodaxe).

The Prize is awarded to the author of the best new collection of poetry published in the UK and Ireland each year and is firmly established as the most valuable and prestigious prize in the UK for a new collection of poetry. This year, to mark the 50th anniversary of T S Eliot's death on 4 February 2015, the T S Eliot Estate has increased the value of the Prize named in his honour. From this year the winner will receive £20,000 and the ten shortlisted poets will each receive £1,500.

Faithful and Virtuous Night, Gluck's ninth collection with Carcanet, was published in September this year and was shortlisted for the 2014 Forward Prize for Best Collection alongside fellow Carcanet poet Kei Miller (whose The Cartographer Tries to Map a Way to Zion won the Prize). Another Carcanet poet, Sinead Morrissey, won the 2013 TS Eliot Prize with Parallax.

The T S Eliot Prize Readings will take place on Sunday 11 January 2015 in Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall. The winner will be announced at The Award Ceremony at the Wallace Collection on Monday 12 January 2015.

Congrats Louise!
