"Women's Initiative Against War" which includes comrades from Anarchist Women have staged
a protest this morning in Ataturk Airport, ?stanbul. They went there to protest the
co-operation of the Turkish state with ISIS in the attacks on the Kurdish enclaves in
Syria, including Kobane. ---- The women protested wearing white shirts with "Kobane is
Life, ISIS is Dead" written on them. Police brutally took the women into custody. ----
What does the protest refer to? As well as the now very well documented attacks by Turkish
state forces on people gathered at the border to help the defence of Kobane and the
silence of the Turkish guns as ISIS fighters visibly move in front of them there are many
accounts of ISIS being allowed to cross the Turkish border.
The quote below for instance is from an ISIS fighter captured and later returned to his
family by the YPG, its well worth reading the full interview but the relevant section is below
" I joined a new battalion; we went back to Turkey and crossed the Turkish border to enter
Serekaniye.
Q: And what about the Ceylanpinar Turkish border post that is heavily controlled by
Turkish soldiers?
They just turned a blind eye.
Q: How?
We were initially told by the IS field commander to fear nothing because there was
cooperation with the Turks at the border. The watchtower light caught us and our commander
said everybody should stop but do not look at the light. He talked on the radio, then the
watchtower light began to move after 8-10 minutes and that was the signal saying we could
safely cross the border."
Turkey is the second biggest army in NATO, these actions are just as much NATO
intervention is the US bombing runs at Kobane.
