Carcanet celebrates National Poetry Day!

Today is National Poetry Day, and the theme for this year is 'remember'. So, in honour of this theme, the Carcanet staff (and George the intern) 'remembered' some of our favourite Carcanet classics, which you can see us modelling above. And because we love poetry so much, and because you do too, we're offering 25% of all our staff picks! It's ok, no need to thank us, we just love you guys...

The Manchester Writing School presents "in conversation" with Jeffrey Wainwright
International Anthony Burgess Foundation, Engine House, Chorlton Mill, 3 Cambridge Street, Manchester M1 5BY - 7pm
The first in a new series of FREE author events features Carcanet poet Jeffrey Wainwright in conversation with the Manchester Writing School's Martin Kratz.
In celebration of National Poetry Day, Jeffrey Wainwright will be reading and discussing his poem 'An Empty Street', which has been shortlisted in the 'Best Single Poem' category of the Forward Prize. The event is effectively a staging of 'the poetry inquisition' called for by the chair of judges, Jeremy Paxman, in controversial remarks made earlier this year. In light of Paxman's remarks, the conversation will focus on the relationship between poetry and the public in particular, and invite thoughts and questions on the poem from the audience.
Contact events@anthonyburgess.org or 0161 235 0776 to reserve seats.

Our Marketing and Publicity Manager Alice's parents are currently on holiday in San Francisco and were browsing in City Lights bookstore (naturally) when they came across a stash of Carcanet titles on the shelves. They took this lovely picture for us so we could share it with you guys (we didn't pay them to, honest!)

Happy National Poetry Day!
