Impressive Street-Concert against Detention in Lesvos/Greece (first pictures below)

In the frame of the second "back-to-the-border"-camp from the network welcome to europe and youth without borders yesterday, 10th of August 2014, an impressive protest took place in front of the detention center on Lesvos island near the village of Moria.
About 80 people, mainly young refugees and migrants, organized a kind of concert (DJ, Rap, Singings...) with big loudspeakers on the street close of the socalled reception center. Although a wall and fences with barbed wire try to isolate the more than 100 detainees from any contact, a common singing, dancing and slogan shouting - mainly in farsi, arabic and english - from inside and outside was possible for about two hours in a very powerful good atmosphere. Many young activists climbed on the wall and started to communicate with inside, additionally a big van was brought into a position, that it could be used for a dancing platform with direct view-contact to the detained friends.
An exchange with many new arrived refugees and migrants started already the days before in the selforganised welcome center Pikpa or in the harbour. Thus also phone contacts to some imprisoned persons were given and the protest concert could be announced to the inside in advance. It was a very successful break isolation protest and a lot of contacts between the newcomers and experienced refugees will remain after these days of discussions and actions... to be continued!
